This is a demo to the beginner musician's tutorial. There's not much information in there yet, but all the pages and links work properly, and just need the information to be added. The final product will have information provided by newgrounds users, such as: Blackhole12, MaestroRage, Rig, Karco, Suspended-3rd-Chord and SBB. If anyone wants to test the alpha out, then feel free to leave a comment here, or PM me on newgrounds (writersblock.newgrounds.com). Cheers.
Edit: I was too lazy to check if the order of the audio credits was correct. Track 2 and 3 are around the wrong way. I'll fix it. Get over it. >
I think a lot of the animations are much too slow. The GUI should be very responsive to the user, popping up windows in maybe a quarter of a second to half a second, not 4 seconds.
Soundfonts are not relatively small. I have a 100 megabyte soundfont and another 200 megabyte one - it all depends on the samples they contain. You should probably mention that soundfonts are really just a bunch of samples - they contain no actual synths.
dll really isn't a format, its a filetype for distributing program code. Oh well
Is the sytrus tutorial going to be a paraphrase of mine?
You really need more actual content before I can give any additional criticism or suggestions. =\
Yeah, it's a pretty average dA page. Don't really go here much. Thanks for the crit, that's the sort of thing I'm looking to brush up on. That first page, "terminology", that's the one I was least sure about what I was saying, so, I'll fix that up.
I'm not sure exactly how I'll go about putting your tutorial in there, but I'll probably go with the exact wording you've got already, and combine that with the sytrus screenshots, I was going to put your tutorial up just as entire screenshots, but it'll be too big, unless I break apart the layout for the tutorials section. I'll have a mess around with it and find something that works.
Posting a link is probably your most viable option, but maybe you can come up with something. Also, in regards to the GUI, I think if you just doubled the framerate, it'd work pretty well, since *all* the GUI elements are sluggish.
You might also want to mention built in effects that are not VSTs.
Yeah, the plan was to have the tutorial as well as a link, but if I can't work something out, then I'll just paraphrase a section and add a link.
I've just had a bit of a mess around with the framerate. Doubling it just made it look way too weird. It was on 24, so I put it at 32. The shine effect still looks alright, and I think the text will be bearable.
By "effects that are not VSTs", do you mean like effects within VSTs, such as with sytrus?
Maybe when I'm getting the information together you could add a section about it, if you're up to it?
I'll take your advice, and make a few more changes, and then upload an Alpha v2, before adding all the information.
In sytrus, partially yes, but also I believe most of the built-in fruity effects are not, in fact, VSTs, and instead are literally built-in. They cannot be accessed externally.
In that case, just speed up the actual animation by tweaking the tweens.
I don't actually know that much about VSTs, just which is which
Ok, yeah. I'll probably mention the "classic" range of effects VSTs which are pretty similar to the stock standard FL ones. I might do that sort of stuff in the VST section, I really haven't thought too hard about that, lol.
I think the frame rate at the moment works pretty good, but I'll upload it later and see what you think.
Yeah, I just know the basics, and I guess you don't need to know too much more than that to make music, so, I'll write up what I do know, and if it can be edited and reworded, then it'll probably be a lot more accurate.
there is nothing on here, it all links to the same page and doesn't give any details, guess you'll fill in everything else later eh? and then it might go on NG? but when it's done I might actually be able to make use of it! (not really for NG though, because as I've said before Wade banned me from submitting to the AP for acting like a noob)
