It's been a long time

Thu Oct 29, 2009, 2:09 AM
It's been a long time since I've submitted stuff here, or even used this account. I'm a writer. Mainly Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy genres, but I write the occasional realist fiction story, and as of late, I've been reading a fair amount of realism and literary fiction. And it's been rubbing off on my style, and I think my writing has only benefitted greatly from it.

Anyway, as things stand now, I've written about 20 stories and a bit over half a dozen poems. Started two novels, yet to finish them both. I don't have too much on here, I mainly just have bits and pieces, loose ended horror stories. I might have to change that.

Also, I've been sending a ton of my stuff to magazines for potential publications. My university has published one short story and two poems since I first contacted them earlier this year. I've also contacted another local magazine, a literary journal, as well as another over in California and one national Sci-Fi and Fantasy magazine. My creative writing tutor's going to get me in contact with a friend of his who has his own literary journal, of which I'll hopefully get in because a) it's quite unknown at the moment, and b)my association with my tutor should reflect on me in a positive light.

And then there's the new novel I'm planning to start and finish, 50,000 words in November. I've got a good rough outline of the book, and a detailed synopsis action by action of the first chapter and a rough synopsis of the second chapter. About 15-20 pages of notes so far.

So, yeah, just dropped by to say that I'm still here, that I'll hopefully pop a few new stories up soon, and, yeah, if anyone reads my stuff on here, I've got much more over here: [link]
and I've got a frequently updated blog which can be found here: [link]

Also, I've got a bit of a cold. Which is not fun. Slowly getting through my last uni assignments though.

if some American tourist just randomly walked into the store where you work, while you were at the register, and the guy's MP3 player was blaring one of your songs, how would you react?

I'd probably laugh to myself and leave it at that. Maybe tell a few guys that work there, but I probably wouldn't go "oh hey, that's my song you're listening to". That would take too long to explain, besides, I'm busy when I'm at work. I've been showing some of my songs and stories to a few people at work anyway. One of the other cashiers is demanding my writings after reading "Scrabble" and "To the Ends of the Earth". I'm going to give her "The Butcher of Krankhafte" next. I'll be very interested to see what she makes of it.

what if the person asked you if you had seen a multicolored eye in a business suit walking around? or asked you if you knew a guy called Writersblock?

...

do you get snow over there in Australia?

...

mind if I set fire to the Great Barrier Reef?

...

I'm so random :P

If someone asked those questions, I would say "hey, don't be silly, there hasn't been a man by that description in the store for at least 15 minutes."

...

In some places, closest of which would be Albany, and not very much at all. Only a few places in Aus would get snow.

...

No, go ahead, but first tie this plastic bag around your head, it's a regulatory thing for people who try to set fire to the GBR.

...

Your mom's so random.

*plants GPS tracking dot on WB's shoes*

don't worry, I wouldn't actually try to track you down, not unless I was stuck in Australia for a year and had nothing better to do

*buys one-way ticket to Australia*

...

yeah, don't Australia's weather patterns just alternate between extreme heat and extreme rain? I remember hearing something about that somewhere, anyway, I know the directer or whatever of "21" was Australian and he said that he had never seen snow before, but of course he saw loads of it when he got to Boston

...

gah! the laws of physics are preventing me from setting fire to your reef, guess I'll just have to rely on my army of crown-of-thorns starfish to eat it
